A Word from the Editor: Publishing by Brian Jackson

Like the music industry before it, and the movie industry to follow, the publishing industry is entering a new era that involves dramatic changes to how the printed word is distributed to the reader.

While the Internet and TV news sources continue to thrive, such prestigious bulwarks of the printed press as the New York Times and the San Francisco Chronicle have seen advertising revenues decline to the point that the future of these papers is now in serious doubt 1. Small publishing houses continue to be gobbled up leaving fewer publishers of printed books beyond the well known giants. One of the biggest sellers of books online, Amazon is now selling their own ebook reader, the Kindle, which is picking up steam.

What does it all mean to today's writer. It means that you've got to be fast on your feet and innovative to get your work in the hands of your readers. That's where sites like Dark Realm Review come in. It is our hope the DRR will grow as an important online source for horror and suspense literature and that in the future we can publish copies of the magazine and novels submitted for publication via the Kindle eBook reader and other creative online sources.

To date, our experience with online publishing in scanty. As the months pass we'll be gaining additional experience. It is our plan to share these experiences with you so that you can come along on the journey

That's it for now. Stay tuned in future issues for more information on experiences in publishing a small online ezine.
